Why Visit the Great Wall of China
Winding through the green hills like an ancient dragon from China’s east to west, the Great Wall of China is an everlasting testament to the country’s strength and beauty and is the longest wall on Earth. As one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Great Wall is an internationally recognized symbol of China that must be seen to be believed.
The Great Wall is more than 2,300 years old. Its construction began in the 3 century B.C. on the order of Emperor Qin Shi Huang as a means of protecting the territory from invasions. Unfortunately, about 1/3 of the Great Wall has disappeared without trace. Nevertheless, the wall standing today, was constructed from the 14 - 17 centuries A.D. mostly during the reign of the Ming dynasty.

The Great Wall of China stretches for over 4000 miles and is the longest structure ever made by man, crossing 9 provinces and municipalities. It can be visited in sections, toured from the top, or toured from around the base. Every section and angle provides an amazing and unique view of China's most famous achievement. Nearest to Beijing is the Badaling section of the wall.
